Lesson

Degree in 比 (一点儿 / 多了)

1. Explain it simply

After a 比 comparison, add a degree phrase to say how much: adjective + 一点儿 / 多了 / 得多.

一点儿 means a little; 多了 and 得多 mean much more.

The degree phrase always comes AFTER the adjective: 高一点儿, 贵多了.

Keep the frame A 比 B + adjective + degree, and never add 很 or 太.

2. Show examples

他比我高一点儿。

Tā bǐ wǒ gāo yīdiǎnr.

Sandhi:Tā bǐ wǒ gāo yìdiǎnr.

He is a little taller than me.

一点儿 = a small difference

这个比那个贵多了。

Zhège bǐ nàge guì duō le.

This one is much more expensive than that one.

多了 = a big difference

今天比昨天热得多。

Jīntiān bǐ zuótiān rè de duō.

Today is much hotter than yesterday.

得多 comes after the adjective

3. Share a tip

Put the degree word after the adjective - say 高一点儿, not 一点儿高.
